The Best 3 Day Vacation in the Bahamas
Are you ready to set sail for an adventure in the sun-kissed Bahamas? This string of over 700 islands and cays offers a treasure trove of memories waiting to be discovered.
Day 1: Explore the City of Nassau
Start your day by walking around Downtown Nassau, known for its brightly colored buildings, historic sites and great food. I recommend beginning by walking down Bay Street. Here you will find the main shopping area lined with colorful colonial style buildings. If you are looking to buy souvenirs, walk a little bit further to the Straw Market (a famous outdoor market with locally made crafts). After a quick bite along Bay Street, head over to the Parliament Square to see the regal House of Assembly, the Supreme Court, and the Parliament building, all of which are housed in elegant colonial-style buildings surrounded by lush gardens.
Take a break in the middle of the day and head to John Watling's Distillery for some of that famous Bahamian Rum! They offer free tours of the factory, explain the rum distilling process and have samples of all the different types of rum.
End your evening by heading to catch the sunset at the Queen’s Staircase. The Queen’s Staircase is a 65-step staircase carved out of solid limestone by slaves in the late 1700s. It offers stunning panoramic views of Nassau and its surroundings. Visitors can reach the staircase by foot or by horse-drawn carriage, and there are plenty of opportunities to take photos along the way!
Day 2: Beautiful Beaches
Nassau is home to several stunning beaches, including Cable Beach and Cabbage Beach, which are popular for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. I recommend setting out early so you can find a great spot to spend your morning in the sun. Get ready for the bluest water and sparkling sand that you’ve ever seen!
In addition to traditional beach activities, Nassau also offers a unique and exciting experience for those who want to swim with pigs. The "Pig Beach" in Exuma is a popular destination for tourists looking to swim with the local feral pigs that roam the area. The pigs are so friendly and love to interact with visitors, making for a truly unforgettable experience! I recommend booking this experience ahead of time via Airbnb Experiences or TripAdvisor. These tours typically come with food and alcohol included and is a lovely way to spend your afternoon into the evening.
Day 3: Relax and Rejuvenate
If you are not already staying at a resort and are looking for a day of relaxation, I recommend buying a day pass to the RIU Palace. At $129 per person, you get all day access to unlimited food, drinks and water activities. The resort sports a beautiful infinity pool that looks over the beach and a swim up open bar. Right below, they host many rounds of beach volleyball and kayaking trips at your leisure. Be sure to get here early so you can grab a good seat by one of the pools!
After your day of relaxation, end your trip with a visit to the Baha Mar resort. Grab a seat at the Jazz Bar that has great live music, a lively crowd and dancing. The Baha Mar also sports a Vegas-style casino and area to explore.
