A Relaxing Trip to Cartagena

Day 1: Explore the Old Town

Morning: Start your day with a stroll through the charming streets of the Old Town (Ciudad Amurallada). Be sure to visit Plaza de Bolívar and sip on some Colombian coffee in a local café.

Afternoon: Head to Getsemaní, an artsy neighborhood adjacent to the Old Town. Explore the vibrant street art, boutique shops, and have a traditional Colombian lunch at a local eatery. I highly recommend trying some ceviche while you are here! Wrap up the afternoon with a visit to the iconic Plaza de la Trinidad.

Night: Experience Cartagena's nightlife in Getsemaní. Visit lively bars and clubs, enjoy live music, and dance to Caribbean beats. The atmosphere here is energetic and perfect for a night out with friends. The plaza area will be bustling with people and whether its a quieter bar or a high energy nightclub, you are sure to find an option that’s fun for everyone.

Day 2: Beach and Boat Day

Morning: Take a boat or bus to Playa Blanca, a stunning white sand beach. Spend the morning relaxing by the turquoise waters, swimming, and soaking up the sun. Grab a coconut from the vendors strolling the beach, they are unbelievably refreshing!

Afternoon: Indulge in fresh seafood from beachside vendors for lunch. Rent a boat or book a tour to explore the nearby islands. We had a great time blasting music, drinking some refreshing beverages and exploring the smaller islands.

Night: Return to Cartagena in the evening. Freshen up and head to a beachfront restaurant for a seafood dinner while enjoying the sunset. I highly recommend checking out La Perla, it has stunning views of the water and delicious food options.

Day 3: Historical Forts and Sunset Views

Morning: Start the day with a visit to Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, a historic fortress with panoramic views of the city. Explore the tunnels and learn about Cartagena's military history. I recommend starting your day early as to beat the crowds and the heat.

Afternoon: Stroll along the city walls for scenic views and visit Las Bóvedas (the vaults) for local crafts and souvenirs. The series of 23 archways, each housing small shops, sells a variety of Colombian handicrafts, souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, and artwork. It is a great place for tourists looking to purchase unique and locally made items.

Night: Take a leisurely walk along the Bocagrande beach promenade to catch the sunset. For dinner, head into the neighborhood and enjoy a mix of Colombian and international cuisine. You might even catch a few live street performances if you’re lucky! Bocagrande is also famous for its upscale nightclubs. Head over to 51 Sky Bar if you are looking for EDM and Pop hits while enjoying some nice cocktails.
