A Stunning 3 Days in Madrid
Madrid is a city full of energy and excitement, and there's no shortage of things to do and see. Whether you're interested in art, food, or nightlife, this city has something for everyone.
Day 1: Culture and Art
Start your day with a trip to the Prado Museum, which is home to some of the world's most famous artworks, including pieces by Spanish artists like Goya and Velázquez. The famous painting Las Meninas is displayed year-round! Spend a few hours here exploring the galleries and soaking up the artistic culture.
In the evening, head over to Cardamomo to catch a world famous flamenco show featuring talented performers and a cozy venue. The performances are lively and engaging, with dancers performing complex footwork and traditional flamenco moves.
After dinner, check out one of Madrid's many bars or clubs for a night of dancing and fun. If you are looking for a lively party scene, be sure to try Teatro Kapital. This nightclub boasts seven different floors, each floor specialising in a different type of music and alcohol choice for drinks!
Day 2: Parks and Food
Kick off the day with a leisurely stroll through Retiro Park, one of Madrid's largest and most beautiful green spaces. Admire the gardens, fountains, and sculptures as you walk around the park. Be sure to check out the Crystal Palace, a stunning glass building and greenhouse!
Head over to Mercado San Miguel, a lively market filled with food stalls selling everything from fresh seafood to gourmet cheese. Grab a few small plates to sample a variety of flavors. The vendors will often give out small samples so dont be shy to ask!
For dinner, try some classic Spanish tapas at a local bar. I personally recommend Casa Toni for the most authentic dishes and flavors! Order a variety of dishes, like patatas bravas, tortilla española, and jamón ibérico, to share with friends.
End your day with a visit to one of Madrid’s rooftop bars for beautiful panoramic views of the city. My personal favorites are: Sky 44 Rooftop, Radio Rooftop, and 360 Rooftop Bar.
Day 3: Seeing the Sights
Get ready for a day of walking! Begin with a visit to the Royal Palace of Madrid, a stunning Baroque palace that has been the official residence of the Spanish royal family for hundreds of years. They offer hourly guided tours for those who want to learn more about the history but feel free to walk around freely as well.
Next, check out the street art in Lavapiés, a vibrant neighborhood known for its eclectic mix of cultures and street art. Take a stroll through the streets and alleys to discover some of the most impressive and colorful murals in the city. You'll be sure to find lots of instagrammable backgrounds here!
Then head on over to my favorite spot in the city: Plaza Mayor. The historic square is surrounded by beautiful buildings and offers a lively atmosphere with street performers, artists, and vendors. I recommend grabbing a bite to eat, sit in the square and watch the street shows that begin every 20-30 minutes.
Finish off your weekend in Madrid with a visit to the Malasaña neighborhood, known for its trendy bars and lively nightlife. I personally recommend El Rincon for quality cocktails and a cute aesthetic.
Optional: One of the must-try food experiences in Madrid is the famous churros con chocolate. I recommend going to Chocolatería San Ginés and ordering churros accompanied by their dipping/drinking hot chocolate.
